A Letter from Chairman and Executive Director
Dear Friends:
It has been a year of reflection and focus on our core mission
for Community Living. We have stabilized our residential program
through consolidation and ongoing staff recruitment and training.
We have strengthened our overall financial position. We have become
involved in many collaborative efforts with other area
agencies. We have been active in advocating for improved funding
for services in Kentucky. We have re-examined our role in meeting
the need for residential services in our community. We have emerged
from this period of change and introspection stronger and determined
to respond to those needs as resources allow.
The year ahead will be an exciting and challenging time for
us and our consumers. Signifi cant changes in the state’s
Medicaid
program will create new opportunities and new problems. We are
committed to continuous quality improvement in serving and supporting
individuals under our existing program. We have seen an increase
in demand for residential services due to an aging of caregivers
coupled with efforts to close larger state institutional
programs such as Oakwood. As a result, developing residential
capacity of our agency is more important than ever before.
Given that our commitment to the people we serve is lifelong,
financial stability is an important concern. Community Living
continues to seek new resources and engage in additional fundraising
activities. While we will continue to honor that lifelong commitment
to specific consumers, we have also developed a more functional
mission statement reflective of the changing needs of persons
with mental retardation. We hope you will join us
in our efforts to provide a high quality of personalized service,
and work with us to welcome persons with mental retardation to
full participation in every area of community life.
We thank you, our friends and volunteers, for your interest
and involvement in Community Living. We appreciate your support
and we invite you to continue your involvement with us in the
coming
year.
Sincerely,
Becca Krall, Chairperson
Board of Directors
Stephen Zaricki,
